Task-Based Language Learning (TBLL) in Second Life METU Campus

TBLLl in SL METU Campus project is a collaborative effort between three department at METU: Computer Education and Instructional Technology, Foreign Language Education, and Department of Basic English. The purpose of this project is to explore the possibilities of teaching and learning English as a foreign language in 3D virtual worlds. For the project, preparatory school area in SL METU Campus will be designed for different English speaking practice tasks/activities. Throughout the tasks, participants will take part in role-playing activities and practice speaking English with native speakers and other participants.

METU Virtual Campus in Second Life

METU Virtual Campus in Second Life, funded by METU Scientific Research Project through Computer Education and Instructional Technology Department and Modeling and Simulation Research and Development Center (MODSIMMER) at METU, is the first example of the use of SL for virtual campus in Turkey. The main aim of the METU Virtual Campus in Second Life include, but not limited to following:

* Provide information about the faculties, departments, and the university for prospective students

* Provide case studies of teaching practices in higher education

* Establish intra- and inter-cultural collaboration in and on virtual worlds

* Setup and coordinate activities in virtual worlds
